THE GANGES
From the headwaters of the Himalayas, the Ganges river runs southeast through Northern India and into the Bay of Bengal. The river is considered sacred by Hindus, but it is in the city of Varanasi, located on its banks, that is considered by many to be the holiest city in Hinduism. And it's there that Hindus trek to be cremated on the banks of the Ganges river and released into its waters.
